Leap Year Checker

Leap Year Rules
  • A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4
  • However, if the year is divisible by 100, it is NOT a leap year
  • Unless the year is also divisible by 400, then it IS a leap year
Historical Context

The leap year system was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BCE. The Gregorian calendar, which we use today, was introduced in 1582 to correct the drift in the Julian calendar.
